Dana 08. kolovoza 2022. godine stručna skupina g WHO došli do konsenzusa o nomenklaturi poznatog i novog majmunske boginje virus (MPXV) varijante or clades. Accordingly, the former Congo Basin (Central African) clade will be known as Clade one(I) and the former West African clade will be called Clade two (II). Further, the Clade II consists of two subclades Clade IIa and Clade IIb.
Clade IIb refer primarily to the group of varijante largely circulating in the 2022 global outbreak.
Imenovanje loza bit će predloženo kako se bude razvijala epidemija.
The idea behind new nomenclature policy is to avoid stigmatising. Hence, WHO finds a name that does not refer to a geographical location, an animal, an individual or group of people, and which is also pronounceable and related to the disease. The most significant implementation of this guideline was seen in February 2020 when the disease caused by the novel koronavirusa detected in Wuhan, China was officially named Covid-19 i roman koronavirusa zvao SARS-COV-2. Both names made no reference to any of the people, places or animals associated with this virus.
It is noteworthy that neither monkeypox virus (MPXV) itself nor the disease caused by it has been given new names yet.
Međunarodni odbor za taksonomiju Virusi (ICTV) is responsible for naming of virus species. A process is currently underway with ICTV for the new name of the monkeypox virus.
Slično tome, WHO trenutno održava otvorene konzultacije za novi naziv za bolest majmunskih boginja. Dodjeljivanje novih naziva postojećim bolestima odgovornost je SZO prema Međunarodnoj klasifikaciji bolesti i Obitelji međunarodnih zdravstvenih klasifikacija SZO (WHO-FIC).
